The Westin Maui Resort and Spa Hotel Review

There are few places in the world that offer a mix between stunning scenery, luxurious resorts and beautiful locals. Maui, one of the Hawaiian islands, is one of those few places.

Situated around 40 minutes by plane from the main Hawaiian island of Oahu, Maui is inhabited by around 140,000 locals, with large influxes of tourists and visitors from other islands.

Maui is different from Oahu because it’s more laid back and has less of a ‘tourist’ vibe to it. There is a highly accommodating feel from the locals and sights are not only limited to the sprawling resorts.



Much like Oahu, Maui’s weather is spectacular. Visiting during the summer months will ensure you get the maximum amount of sun. During summer, the west side of the island is best for sunsets and they are the best sunsets you will ever see, I guarantee it.

Getting around Maui is easy. You can either catch a shuttle bus or organise a rental vehicle (I recommend pre-booking a cheap rental vehicle through rental comparison websites like YouDrive.com.au). There are scenic roads to most resorts and tourist locations, making the drive even more enjoyable.

The island is packed with activities and sights. I highly recommend checking out the stunning sights of Mount Haleakala, which towers 3000m above sea level and is one of the two volcanos that created the island.

Another must is a trek down the road to Hana. Hana is a small town on the east side of Maui best known for its road, which features over 600 corners.

The Westin Maui Resort and Spa is located in Ka’Anapali, just outside Lahaina. Featuring 759 guest rooms, five pools, two waterslides, a huge gym and absolute beach frontage, this is one of the biggest and most luxurious resorts on Maui.

Unlike some resorts, the Westin Maui caters both for parents and children with adult pools and children pools. This means those with kids can hang out in one area, while adults wanting relaxation can hang out at the other — the system works incredibly well.

The hotel offers rental of snorkeling gear and luxury private cabanas, which can be rented daily or weekly. Weary travellers can also receive massages at the beachfront in large private cabanas — utter bliss.

Based directly on the beach, it’s easy to switch between the five pools and the thrashing ocean. Unlike the partly man-made beaches at Waikiki, Maui’s beaches have strong waves and deep ledges — perfect for those wanting to surf or snorkel.

Throughout the hotel, there is an amazing array of flora and fauna. The gardens are meticulously maintained, while the footpaths and walkways are cleaned daily.

Guest rooms are finished with modern Hawaiian styling and feature all the amenities of a modern luxury hotel. The daily resort fee covers wireless internet, daily supplies of water, parking, local phone calls and access to the gym.

While there are a number of dining options along the Ka’Anapali shoreline, The Westin features a restaurant called Relish Burger Bistro, which aims to meld traditional and hearty meals with local flair. Seating is available both inside The Westin and along the stunning shoreline.

The Westin’s daily resort fee also covers a free shuttle bus to Lahaina, a small town located just minutes from the resort. Featuring a huge array of shops and restaurants, Lahaina is arguably best known for its huge Banyan Tree, which sits proudly at the south end of the town.

Those after shopping won’t be disappointed with a large outlet mall located within the Lahaina shopping strip. Top brands offer their items at discounts at outlet stores to clear stock — a win, win for buyers after brand names without the regular high price tags.

With cheap flights from Oahu, Maui is an absolute must see destination and one that adds an extra element of depth to your visit to the Polynesian islands.
