Shortly after hopping off the plane, the long process of leaving the airport begins. Once you’re finally out make sure you head straight toward your driver or taxi. There are lots of people in the arrival hall and they will often impersonate other hire companies for extra money. It’s also one of the only airports in the world that has a full service bar metres from the airport.
Mexicans are big on tipping and accept US dollars. While being generous is a gracious show of kindness, try not to flash huge sums of money, as the tourist crime rate in Mexico is very high. Much like most built up tourist areas in foreign countries, it’s best to stay with the crowd and only venture off the beaten track with experienced locals.

With daily temperatures over 30 degrees in summer, the acclimatisation process is quick and pleasant. Most shops, cars and hotels are fully air conditioned so there are always places to flee the heat if required.
Resorts line the coastal road between Cabo San Jose and Cabo San Lucas, with the bulk of them around 40 minutes away from Cabo San Jose. Unlike the Gold Coast where the hotel pool is the ocean, all resorts along the Cabo coast have no shortage of pools.

If relaxation isn’t quite your thing, Cabo San Lucas has plenty to offer outside the resorts. Just make sure you bring your bartering hat!
Explore by car – There are heaps of places to see and explore around Cabo and the Baja California coast. The easiest and cheapest way is to hire a cheap rental car. Check to ensure you have adequate insurance coverage and book before you leave Australia. http://www.youdrive.com.au
Puerto Paraiso Mall – A holiday wouldn’t be complete without a little bit of shopping. The Puerto Paraiso Mall offers all the best brands under one air conditioned roof. The Mall also features an outdoor water area to kick back after a long day of shopping.Diamante Cabo San Lucas – While it would be wasted on yours truly, the Diamante Cabo San Lucas golf course sits in the top 60 in the world. Mexico takes its golf very seriously and this 18 hole course is no exception. Be sure to book in advance as places sell out.
The main reason for the pools is that Cabo is located on the edge of the Pacific Ocean. The rips and undercurrents are very strong and swimming in the ocean is not recommended. Of course people will always try and also unlike the Gold Coast, there isn’t an abundance of lifeguards to keep you safe.

I stayed at the adult-oriented ME Cabo for five days — what an experience. Aside from incredibly friendly staff, amazing food and endless drinking opportunities, the resort is located within walking distance of the shopping mall, marina and beach activities.
There is a brilliant on site day spa on site that offers well-priced massages and pampering packages. There’s even a cold water waterfall to help kick start your senses after time in the sauna.

I highly recommend learning some basic Spanish to hold friendly conversation with locals and hotel staff. It also helps when bartering with cruise or activity operators. Spanish is one of the most spoken languages in the world, so it’s safe to assume most people won’t understand you blurting questions in Aussie-English.
Cabo is all about relaxation and the sun. With barely any rainfall during the year, it’s impossible to pick a bad time to come. At night it stays hot, meaning you can leave the jeans and sweatshirts at home.

If you’re after something to do outside the resorts, don’t spend your money on taxis. The easiest way to get about is by using the local bus system. At $2USD per ride, the bus stops at all major hotels on its way to Cabo San Lucas, where you will find the amazing Cabo Marina and Puerto Paraiso Mall.
Credit card abusers will have a field day within the shopping centre where all the major brands feature outlets. The centre also has an outdoor food area that backs onto a group of restaurants eager to cook up a storm.

At the Cabo Marina you will find countless activity scalpers trying to get you aboard their boats. Try and snag a boat with a glass hull so you can see some of the amazing sea life. The cruise boats will take you out to El Arco (The Arch) and Playa del Amor (Lover’s Beach), both located on the southern tip of the Mexican Peninsula.
Surprisingly Cabo is home to a couple of the world’s best golf courses. Despite most things being inexpensive in Mexico, golf courses are considered premium so don’t be surprised to pay $200-275 for 18 holes.

At just two hours flying time from Los Angeles, you can’t beat Cabo San Lucas as the perfect holiday destination. It’s affordable, hot and the scenery is simply breathtaking.
Place to Stay
ME Cabo – When these guys say Cabo luxury, they really mean it. As you drive into the ME Cabo resort, it’s hard not to be amazed at the sheer size and luxury. 151 guest rooms, three restaurants and a huge swimming pool give you an impression of the grandeur on offer.

This adult-oriented resort plays great music by the pool and gives you no reason to leave, ever. There is also an incredible day spa that offers pampering, relaxation and an incredible laid back environment.
This is a predominantly kid-free resort, so put it at the top of your list if you’re after some peace and quiet.
